I'm an author, copywriter, wife and super proud dog mom to three rambunctious rescue dogs. I'm an old school romantic, with a proclivity for a little mischief.

With a background in marketing, and Human Resources, I've often found that the human element is by far the most colorful, complex and most interesting in the world.

As I child, I devoured every book I could get my hands on, and spent my free time writing fictional short-stories to share with my friends.

I suppose that was the reason I decided to write (and publish) my first book, Catalyst-Heart of the Inferno.

It's an action-romance about a dangerous mafia lord and his girl-next-door paramour. Written from both male and female perspectives, and with a few crazy twists and turns Catalyst certainly isn't your grandma's romance novel! I promise there is something for everyone

I am a seeker and a mystic at heart, fascinated by language and mythology. I love prehistory, archaeology, myths, and magic. And like Sorcha O’Hallorhan, my Irish archaeologist in To Sleep with Stones, I long to travel back in time to experience cultures as they once were. Perhaps, that’s why I sent her, Estrada, and Dylan time-traveling back to Iron Age Ireland. Where they go, I go.

In this interview, Wendy discusses her book 'To Sleep with Stones' a murder mystery that features an archaeologist and a missing artifact that’s connected to the murder. I also did hands-on research on the Argyll peninsula that really changed the novel. I went to all the settings and have good Scottish stories. This story took off on its own and when I finished reading it I realized that homophobia affects at least four of the characters in Scotland in a big way. It became a theme in a way and actually affects the plot as well.

Abandoned at birth, life has always been a battle for Jane Walker. She and her best friend, Sadie, spent years fighting to survive Vancouver’s cutthroat underbelly. That would have been tough enough without Jane’s mysterious afflictions: an intricate pattern of blood-red birthmarks that snake around her body and vivid, heart-wrenching nightmares that feel so real she wakes up screaming.

After she meets the first man who isn’t repulsed by her birthmarks, Jane thinks she might finally have a chance at happiness. Her belief seems confirmed as the birthmarks she’s spent her life so ashamed of magically begin to disappear. Yet, the quicker her scarlet marks vanish, the more lucid and disturbing Jane’s nightmares become—until it’s impossible to discern her dreams from reality, and Jane comes to a horrifying realization:

The nightmares that have plagued her since childhood are actually visions of real people being stalked by a deadly killer. And all this time, her birthmarks have been the only things protecting her from becoming his next victim.

A few words on Fantasy.  I wrote my first fantasy novel at 14; I promise you will never see it.  I have been a Fantasy reader since my mum read me ‘The Hobbit’ at age 5; I consume Fantasy novels the way some people eat chocolate.  Some of my favorites, and heavy influences on everything I write, and not just Fantasy:  The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien; The Worm Ourobouros, by E.R. Eddison; everything by Glen Cook; everything by Steven Erikson, CJ Cheryh, Larry Niven, David Pournelle, Lois McMaster Bujold, Steven Brust, Jim Butcher and Terry Pratchett.  And perhaps first, William Morris; The Red Knight owes a debt to all these books, but perhaps most to The Sundering Flood.

SEBASTIEN CASTELL

Author

Sebastien de Castell had just finished a degree in Archaeology when he started work on his first dig. Four hours later he realized how much he actually hated archaeology and left to pursue a very focused career as a musician, ombudsman, interaction designer, fight choreographer, teacher, project manager, actor, and product strategist. His only defence against the charge of unbridled dilettantism is that he genuinely likes doing these things and that, in one way or another, each of these fields plays a role in his writing. He sternly resists the accusation of being a Renaissance Man in the hopes that more people will label him that way.
