This memoir is an inspirational yet harrowing story of a domestic violence victim's search for the truth about her marriage. Twenty-one-year-old Sarah Doucette married a charming, gregarious and attentive man. Six years later, she left the marriage, lucky to be alive. Suffering from PTSD and dissociation after years of physical and emotional abuse, Sarah could barely remember the details of her marriage. After her ex-husband's death by suicide, Sarah set out to interview those who knew him, piecing together the destructive patterns in his life and how it affected her even years later. This book is a cautionary tale about trusting one's inner voice in order to leave an abusive relationship. It is a story of domestic abuse survival that can help others survive their trauma while outlining the many kinds of domestic abuse.

Attached to a lamppost adjacent to the fountain is a small plaque put in place by the New York City Parks Department that offers a brief biography of Ray Hamilton, explains the significance of ornamental fountains in early twentieth-century parks, and mentions a “public scandal involving Eva Mann, who he had secretly married, and who had used this alliance to raid his substantial financial holdings.” That one line piqued my curiosity and instigated a search through court records, case files, personal correspondence, and archival material in an effort to learn more about this mysterious scandal. It is a story that has not been told in book-length form until now and I am thrilled to be able to bring it to my readers.

Kind Soul Closet Maniac is about a scared white kid Growing up in abject poverty in the ghetto of Roxbury, Massachusetts. Raised by “black out” alcoholic parents. Trying to navigate the violence, fear and child abuse put upon him and his siblings by abusive, malicious people. Finally escaping that situation only due to the house burning down and killing his mother. He went to live with a sibling in an all-white neighborhood but the violence at home was the same.
He escaped it all at around 16 and he tried to navigate life completely through trial and error. Trying to come to terms with his addiction to alcohol and doing every thing he could to not repeat the cycle of violence and substance abuse he witnessed and suffered as a child.
Finding true love and having it stolen away by cancer, he loses his battle to stay sober and is once again crashing down. A cycle that repeats itself to this day. The peaks and valleys he experiences in his life are supplied by an indomitable will that keeps him moving forward. Farther and faster away from a horrible beginning. And trying to fight against addiction to alcohol that keeps him crashing. Time after time.
There are many funny moments that come through. Our protagonist never gives up hope for better tomorrow. He tries to work his way through the anger he feels about his childhood.
